A whole new world opened up to us today.

The GoPro MISSION 1 Pro ILS completely changes what I can shoot—and what I can shoot it with. For this test, I paired the camera with two Nikon-mount lenses: a vintage 180mm f/2.8 telephoto from the early 1990s and a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens fitted with a magnifying diopter.

Using an inexpensive adapter with no additional optics, the crop factor of the MISSION 1 Pro’s 1-inch sensor gives these lenses an approximate full-frame-equivalent field of view of 490mm and 270mm.

I previously owned a 500mm lens for my Nikon cameras—and even hiked through Yosemite carrying that beast—so having comparable telephoto reach at a fraction of the weight and a tiny fraction of the cost is huge.

Then there are the slow-motion capabilities: 1440p at 480 frames per second, 4K at 240 frames per second, and an unbelievable 1080p at 960 frames per second. Combine that with beautiful 50-megapixel RAW photography and the ability to use lightweight, affordable vintage lenses, and the creative possibilities are unlike anything most of us could have imagined at this price point.

From extreme telephoto and wildlife footage to macro photography and ultra-slow-motion video, the GoPro MISSION 1 Pro ILS gives creators an entirely new set of tools to explore.

Honestly, I haven’t been this excited in a very long time to get outside, leave my comfort zone, and capture subjects in ways I never could before. GoPro completely knocked it out of the park with this one!
